All of us experience false belief systems at one time or another. They can be extremely damaging in a marriage if not dealt with properly. Often, we find ourselves sidetracked, which leads to distraction in our marital relationships as well. And then we begin to look elsewhere. We create idols out of others. Here are some signs of a false belief system. Which ones can you identify with?

  • Fear of failure
  • Fear of rejection
  • Fear of punishment
  • Perfectionism
  • Workaholic
  • Feelings of inferiority
  • People pleasing
  • Overly sensitive to criticism
  • Defensiveness
  • Procrastination
  • Loss of creativity
  • Isolation
  • Withdrawal from risks
  • Withdrawal from God and others

Thankfully, there’s hope. What our mates cannot fulfill, God can. The holes in our souls should only lead us to worship the Creator, not the creation.

Can you identify any false belief systems in your life or marriage? What are some steps you can take to eliminate those?
