What We Mean by Building Culture
Prepare Couples for a successful, yet realistic marriage using trained marriage mentors and the Prepare/Enrich Inventory by Life Innovations. See Kankakee County Marriage Initiative (link).
Teach the Purpose, benefits, and challenges couples are facing with the goal of fostering healthy marriages. Sociology of Marriage taught by Dr. Kent & Mrs. Beth Olney, is offered during spring and summer semesters at Olivet Nazarene University.
Declare the Creator’s design and intent for marriage. Familiarize area churches with Marriage Inc. and its resources. Provide speakers to bring a message on marriage to your local congregation. Regular marriage-focused seminars and events (link) are also sponsored throughout the year.
Renew and Rekindle the flames of love in tired or distressed marriages. Marriage counseling (link) is available in collaboration with several area counselors and marriage mentoring for couples in distress. If a marriage needs intense, concentrated help, Marriage Inc. is partnering with The Ravines (link), which offers a week-long or extended weekend retreat for interested couples.
Prevent Divorce by providing emotional support for married couples along the life span. For example, THRIVE! is a group for young married couples and is designed to help them recognize and work on issues early on in marriage, and help them develop relationships with other couples who want to do the same. Marriage classes are held each spring as a follow up to A Celebration of Marriage and are designed for any couple, no matter how good the relationship is.
Celebrate Marriage by bringing people together from across the county for a large marriage celebration! This is done every year through a community “date night” (link). Consider joining us next year for this enjoyable evening with your spouse and a thousand other couples!
